We will reforest in the Colca mountain in Cotabambas Peru with the help of 25 children from the community.

Objective

Plant 2020 native species with children from the Colca community, as part of raising awareness in environmental protection and contributing to the reforestation of the mountains of the Community.

Issue

The mountains of the Peruvian Andes were covered with shrubs and vegetation, but due to the overgrazing of animals, the extension of the agricultural frontier and especially because of the use of trees as fuel by the population, which does not appreciate the value of the vegetation and Native trees in soil conservation, moisture and water generation, and wildlife, have caused depopulation of mountain trees. The consequences are soil erosion, loss of farmland, frosts in unusual times, population decline in wild animals.

Threats

If deforestation continues, and the lack of sensitivity on the part of the population in conservation of vegetation and on the contrary the need for reforestation with native species, the soils will lose their layer of arable land, there would be water shortages in dry season, disappearance of wild animals, presence of frosts in unusual times. Threatening the Colca population itself in its capacity to provide food.

Opportunity

Teaching children the value of native species in their contribution to soil conservation, generation of ecosystems and value for humans, is the best strategy to reduce deforestation, in addition to planting native species we will contribute to the project that seeks to repopulate the vegetation in the mountains of the community.
